Investment into Industrial Internships for Chemists Program
These scholarships provide access to mentors and scholarship funds to underrepresented graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in pursuit of non-laboratory, chemical enterprise-related internships.
applications currently closed.
Purpose
The ACS Division of Business Development & Management (BMGT) is committed to actively supporting chemists from traditionally underrepresented groups to pursue careers in the business and management of the chemical enterprise.
The Investment into Industrial Internships for Chemists (I4C) program is designed to overcome ancillary hurdles for post-baccalaureate chemistry and chemical engineering students in accepting independent non-laboratory internships. I4C provides mentoring and supplementary funding scholarships.
The I4C program pairs students with mentors familiar with career pathways that lead into the management of the chemical enterprise. The program also provides supplementary financial support to defray financial restraints such as relocation or travel costs.
Background
The chemistry enterprise can greatly benefit from enhanced diversity in all forms, and at all levels of business, which requires a conscious effort to address historic inequities. Internships are widely cited by executives within the chemical industry as key experiences during their early careers and education that led to their success while “climbing the corporate ladder”.
BMGT’s I4C program leverages the benefits of internships to create opportunities to strengthen diversity in corporate management and to make students aware of the various career pathways – outside of the research laboratory - that their chemistry education can create for them.
