Background
Established by BMGT Executive Committee in 2021. The BMGT Nexus award is sponsored by the ACS Division of Business Development and Management.
Frequency: Annual - Presented at the Fall National ACS Meeting
Awardee Receives
- Award plaque to be presented during BMGT Awards ceremony, Annual Meeting or BMGT symposium.
- One paid year of ACS Premium membership and BMGT membership, if not already a member.
- The opportunity to present their contributions at a BMGT sponsored symposium in their honor during the fall ACS national meeting. The award symposium serves to highlight the accomplishments of the award winner by providing a venue to inform researchers and other professionals of the status of current work, ideas, and thoughts; to enable networking with other practitioners; and to acquaint other active members of the chemistry enterprise community.
- The awardee has the option to organize, choose speakers, and select the theme for the half day symposium that is relevant to business development and management with the support of the BMGT Program Chair. Timing: ACS national symposium at the fall of that year OR spring of the next year.
- Visibility and networking opportunities at the fall national ACS meeting—the awardee will be recognized at the Industry Networking Reception, the BMGT website and at the BMGT Annual Meeting held in the fall.
Applying
Eligibility
- The award is open to all individual ACS members in good standing (but not required) in chemistry and chemical engineering working in industry.
- Appropriate candidates must have a management, business or commercial role no more than 15 years from receipt of their terminal scientific degree and have demonstrated outstanding promise for further contributions to business development and management within the chemical enterprise. Applicants can either be self-nominated or can be nominated by another individual for this award.
- The nominator does not need to be an ACS member.
- The person nominated does not need to be an ACS member at the time of nomination.
- Industrial applicants from the chemical enterprise may come from, but are not limited to, numerous functions. For example, safety, sales, marketing, purchasing, regulatory, legal, research & development, etc.
The following are not eligible:
- Those who are already widely acknowledged and recognized in their area of chemistry or chemical engineering and are at the pinnacle of their careers;
- ACS national award winners;
- those who have received a prior award under this program;
- members of the National BMGT Executive Committee
Nominations
- One nomination letter.
- Nominee’s current resume or curriculum vitae
- Two supporting recommendations:
- From a manger above the nominee
- From below the nominee within the nominee’s organization (Does not need to be a direct report)
- Draft Award Citation of 250 words or less
- Nominations should not exceed 10 pages
